Definitely enjoyed this, though I would've preferred Bill asking more specific questions about the elements of sourcing training that Suzy delivers to her teams (e.g., she volunteered creating Boolean search strings and job board alerts for her Deloitte India teams).

Let me comment on two of Suzy's points:

1) I agree when she said someone can become a great sourcer without formal training or certification if you already have some search savvy, but if you're starting new, then training is valuable to ramp up the "right" way. To this I would add: you can save a lot of time with great training.

2) She had no idea how to estimate the number of sourcers. There are some data points that can help you get to a number of how many sourcers are out there. For example, LinkedIn recently announced they have 530,000 recruiters as members. Of course, sourcers are within that subset. Relatively few sourcers are doing full-time name-gen or competitive intelligence research. I would argue that recruiters who appreciate the value of LinkedIn are sourcers. How can you get to that number? I posit that out of those 530,000 recruiters, the ones with 500+ first-degree connections are probably sourcers. That would be an interesting number to get from LinkedIn - in fact, I think I'll ask them!

Nice video Suzy and Bill! Love to hear everyone's take on recruiting and sourcing. XtremeRecruiting.tv is turning into the "Late Night with Jay Leno" for our industry isn't it?

Suzy - Loved the detailed commentary and viewpoint on Social Networking. You continue to lead the way. Wish I had a peak at the Sourcing Portal! Hope you will be speaking at SourceCon in 2009...
